Aragonite is the orthorhombic form of calcium carbonate, with the most common form, calcite, having a trigonal crystal symmetry. Crystals such as the ones in the photo commonly occur in cavities in basalt rocks. This specimen is from a basalt quarry at Learmonth near Ballarat, Victoria.It is also a specimen that will be included in one of my auction lots next week at OZtion...
