Art Spot: Red Boat...

This is my first art post. Its a watercolour called 'Red Boat' (original, eh!) and was sent to my March 2007 Swap Partner, Jan K in Canada. Swaps are a great idea. Every three months or so, you send a small watercolour painting to your swap partner (name drawn out of a hat) and you receive an original watercolour painting from another artist somewhere else in the world. This swap, I received a painting from Ursula in Brazil!

Find out more about Swaps here. And at the time of writing this, the swap I received three months ago adorns the home page!

Mineral Spot: Duftite on Calcite...

I recently acquired a collection of micro-minerals (those that require light and magnification to enjoy). This is one of these.

It is a photo of duftite crystals (green) on calcite from the famous Tsumeb Mine in Namibia. The field of view in this image is approx 9mm. It now resides in a New Zealand collection.

It was sold on my auction website at OZtion.

Critter Spot: A Hairy Critter...

Here's an example of one of my macro photos. I came across this caterpillar the other night munching grass on my driveway. I very nearly stepped on it. Don't have an ID yet but looking...

First Spot: Very First Post!

Well, the About Me tells you a bit about, well, me! The photo of me by the way, was taken a long way from Tasmania. I was fortunate to visit Tucson, Arizona, earlier this year, and attend the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, the biggest event of its kind in the world. There were more than 40 individual shows.

The photo was taken at a friend's place, Gary, who lives on the outskirts of Tucson, and whom I knew from a photography forum.

Anyway, if you want to know more about this year's Tucson Show, there is a write-up in a new magazine - the Australian and New Zealand Mineral Collector Magazine, published by me through You can find out more about this at here.
